How do we raise money to adopt our own elephant?

  1. I think the best and most fun way to sponser orphaned elephants is to possibly make tye-dye t-shirts. We can make announcements over the intercom in the morning, along with a fact or two about elephants so people are aware of what is really going on. They can then make an order and we can spend one day or time after school making all the t-shirts. It will be both fun and productive

  2. CAN WE PLEASE JUST DO THIS. OH MY GOODNESS. But remember when we were talking about fundraising ideas for conference, we talked about a "chance to win" a parking spot in the teacher's lot.. i think that would bring in loooots of money.

  3. I want to adopt the little blind one!! He's so cute!! And I think both of those ideas are great! I also like the idea of making elephant cookies or selling elephant ears at lunch like Mrs. Field said. Also, I know there is already a dodgeball tournament scheduled to go on but I remember last year that fundraiser made sooooo much money. We could have a tournament something like that. We should all make t-shirts saying SAVE THE ELEPHANTS or something to, so people know why we're doing all the fundraising.

  4. i think that Kelsey's shirt idea is smart. we could buy all of the supplies which wouldn't take that much money from our pockets, if you buy a pack of hanes shirts its only about 5 dollars and they tye dye very well. and i know that quite a few people in our class love making shirts so it would be enjoyable. we just have to find the time to do it. and we also have to think about how we would sell them. would we type up an order form so we know exactly what to make? or would we just making a bunch of small, mediums, and larges and try to sell all of them? I really like this idea.

  6. I thought the ending of that video was sooo corny haha. But this looks like a really nice feel-good cause. As far as getting funds, i think doing some kind of elephant awarness stuff to make people feel bad and then asking for donations would work. The parking raffle idea sounds great, everyone who drives would love that and i think we would get tons of money no matter what the cause.

  7. I agree with the T-shirt idea! That can be a fund-raiser for the near future. In the winter when it's really cold we can sell something warm like hot coco w/ marshmallows or something like "eggnog for elephants". Something really catchy! We need to really make sure we advertise really well, otherwise people won't understand the whole issue. I know there's directions in my origami book to make elephants, so we could even sell elephant bookmarks for something small.

  8. I think that in order to get the full amount that we would need to sponsor the elephant, we will need to use all of the ideas above. I think t-shirts would be cool, as long as the cost would be profitable, sometimes the dye can be expensive, especially when you need a lot of it. I hope it works! I also know that a lot of people would also pay to win a parking spot in the teacher's lot. I also really like the book mark idea, if we combined it with the other two ideas then we could easily reach our goal. Making the bookmarks could be a lot of fun and maybe we could sell them with the t-shirts, or with the chance to win the parking spot.

  9. I agree with what Julia said about using several fundraiser ideas in order to get all the money we need. I think Kelsey's t-shirt idea would be really fun and would raise a lot of money, as well as the "chance to win" a parking spot and hot chocolate ideas. If we did all three I think we'd be really successful!

  10. I think that we need to do multiple small fundraisers, rather than one big fundraiser. I say this because if we put all our effort into one big fundraiser that may or may not work, we could be sorely disapointed. I like the bracelet idea we thought of in class. We have so many great ideas, I think it's a matter of executing them properly

  11. I personally stand by the idea of an elephon. I think people will be interested just by the name. We could bring all the other ideas and sell them at the elephon. If we can't have the fundraiser after school, we could always put it on a saturday. Many families would bring their little children. Also, we could put ads in the newspaper so everyone around knows that this is a serious cause. If we don't sell many things at the elephon itself, we could also sell them at school after. I believe this is the best way to raise awarseness and earn money for an elephant.

  12. After discussing the idea's yesterday, I think we should definitely do the Elephon. It would be a lot of work, but I think if we all worked on different parts of it, it could be really successful. Evone and I want to go to the board with a powerpoint or information on the details of the Elephon, activites and costs. We just need to figure all of this out. So if we form a committee, I think that we should find out more details before going to the board.

  13. I really think this elephon thing will end up being a success if we can plan it correctly. If we incorperate all these fun activites that we talked about in class, like the bouncey things that Joe can donate, the tshirt sales - maybe a talent show? - face painting, and movies, people will be very interested, especially if we are able to get the word out. In order for this to work, we need to campaign and spread awareness. We talked about all the connections we had with food and such, and I'm sure other places are willing to donate supplies - especially if we advertise where we recieved donations from. And I'm sure that we are ALL willingy to donate a small amount of cash to get the trivial supplies we could easily make it work! :)

  14. I like Kelsey's idea to raffle off a parking space in the teacher's lot. That's a really good way to raise money.

Also I'm worried about homecoming because it's next week and I don't think realistically we can pull anything off for it. We need time to plan and get the word out, so people know it's not a joke.

I'm sorry I can't come up with anything, but after racking my brain for a week I really can't come up with anything besides what we talked about in class, it seems like every fundraiser i come up with, someone in the school already does :/.

  15. I think we should do several different fundraisers, such as the t-shirts, braceletes, elephant shaped pops sale ect. I think the Elephon would be fun but after asking several people if they would attend the elephon they just laughed at me and said no way, so i think that might just cost us money and to much time for not enough profit. If we split up the smaller funraisers and each team has something to focus on to sell or do such as the blog and video thing then i think we would be far more successful in raising the money we need to help these cute elephants! (:

  16. Yeah I definitely agree with Danielle about the elephon. We can't get students to go to a school dance, so I don't think many would be interested in spending an entire night. We could just start with our mini fundraisers for now and maybe later on propose the idea of the elephon to see how it's accepted. Right now we should be concerned about educating the school about the elephants in need and work from there. I really like the idea of the movie to be shown in all classes and posters could be made. When more students know and care about the issue, more students will buy bracelets, tshirts, etc.

  17. What we have to focus on the most is definitely awareness. No one out of our IR class is going to want to buy a t-shirt or a bracelet or anything. Posters all around school, announcements, and a raffle could kick start the awareness. We could have baskets of elephant related gifts and then with each ticket someone buys, they get a little fact about the endangerment of the elephant! It's a slow way to start, but it would be a good way to get out information. If we wanted to do the shirts we could start off with our whole class buying the shirts so our friends ask us whats up with them to get the word around about the elephants. We could also use this method with the bracelets... yeah...
